Department of
Industrial Policy and Promotion (DIPP), Ministry of Commerce and
Industry in collaboration with Federation of Indian Chamber of Commerce
and Industry (FICCI) and the Office of the Controller General of
Patents, Designs and Trademarks (CGPDTM) organized an Awareness
Programme on Intellectual Property Rights for Industry on 22nd January
2009 at Kanpur. This was the second program of a series of 8 IPR
sensitization programmes being conducted in different cities of India by
the FICCI during December 2008 – March 2009.
Shri Chandraker Bharti, Deputy Secretary, Department of Industrial
Policy and Promotion, Ministry of Commerce & Industry delivered the
special address and highlighted the initiatives being taken by
Government of India. Shri S. N. Sav, Assistant Controller of Patents and
Designs, Indian Patent Office presented his views on IP related aspects.
Dr. K S Kardam Deputy Controller of Patents and Designs, spoke about
“Utility Model Protection” where he explained how small inventions are
being protected in other countries through Petty Patents/Utility Models.
He also explained the implications and importance of such system. He
explained how Indian companies can benefit from such protection.
Ms. Sheetal Chopra, Head, IPR Division, FICCI explained how Intellectual
Property has become the most important ingredient of today’s business
success stories. She explained that FICCI is playing a crucial role by
bridging the gap between industry and policy makers. The technical
sessions were successfully carried by eminent speakers like Mr. Anjan
Sen, Mr. Sameer Rastogi, Dr. Ramesh Mehta, Mr. Rahul Dutta. About, 200
participants attended the programme representing IIT Kanpur\,law
schools, Industry professionals, researchers, legal practitioners,
inventors, medical professionals etc.
The conference hall witnessed complete attendance till the programme
ended. At the end Quiz was held and the winners were awarded with prize.
This was followed by issuance of certificates to the participants.
