The third Stakeholders Meeting on Manual of Practices & Procedures of Patent Office was held on 28 August, 2008 at IPO, Chennai under the chairmanship of Shri N.N. Prasad, Joint Secretary, Department of Industrial Policy & Promotion, Ministry of Commerce & Industry. This meeting was attended by over 80  persons representing  Intellectual Property Attorney Firms, Industry Associations such as FICCI, CII, Pharmaceutical Industries, Software Industries ,Universities, Law Institutes, NGOs and individual inventors and officials from the Patent Offices and the Ministry. The participants, while underlining the need of having in place patent manual containing concise and succinct guidelines to guide the users, appreciated the efforts of the Ministry for holding such consultative meetings. Most of the participants raised issues concerning software related inventions, section 3(d) of the Patents Act 1970 and some procedural aspects. The next stakeholder meeting is to be held in Kolkata.
